The Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Dallas renovation and expansion project marks a significant step forward in the city's urban development, showcasing a commitment to innovation, diversity, and community engagement. The Master Plan has seven components, three of which have been awarded. The project leverages the unique strengths and histories of its lead firms, ensuring a blend of local insight, cultural sensitivity, and world-class expertise.

    Overview of Project Awardee:
    Inspire Dallas, a collaboration led by Matthews Southwest, stands as a beacon of local expertise and a commitment to diversity and inclusivity. Matthews Southwest, known for its significant contributions to Dallas's urban development, brings a wealth of experience in large-scale projects, emphasizing the role of diverse leadership and collaboration in achieving transformative urban outcomes .

    With a strong focus on community and equity, Inspire Dallas showcases the power of collective action, bringing together 28 subcontractors, 75% of which are local Dallas businesses, and over half are certified Minority, Women, Business Enterprises (M/WBE). This consortium, deeply embedded in the fabric of Dallas, leverages a profound understanding of the city's unique landscape to drive the convention center’s expansion forward.

  • Led by McKissack & McKissack

    Overview:
    Encompasses the comprehensive renovation of the Dallas Memorial Arena, focusing on modern enhancements while preserving its historical essence.

    Key Features:
    • Modernization of seating, lighting, and acoustics.
    • Preservation of historical elements with contemporary conveniences.
    • Improvements in accessibility for a diverse range of visitors.

    Overview of Project Awardee: McKissack & McKissack, a Washington D.C.-based firm with over a century of legacy, shapes environments through architecture and engineering. Led by Deryl McKissack, a descendant of architects and engineers, the MWBE Black women-owned firm embodies a deep commitment to diversity and the American dream. Their work on the Dallas Memorial Arena renovation showcases technical and aesthetic excellence, honoring a familial legacy of architectural innovation and resilience.

  • Led by Dikita Enterprises Inc.

    Overview:
    Focuses on the renovation and reconstruction of The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL), revitalizing its role as a cultural beacon.

    Key Features:
    • Facility modernization while preserving cultural integrity.
    • Expansion of spaces for cultural exhibitions and educational programs.
    • Emphasis on making cultural experiences accessible to the community.

    Overview of Project Awardee:
    Dikita Enterprises Inc. (Dikita) is an MWBE-certified, Black veteran-led, and woman-owned firm, distinguished in Architecture, Engineering & Construction (AEC). Founded in 1979 in Dallas, Texas, Dikita has deep community roots.

    Under Evalynn “Eve” A. Williams' leadership, it's a recognized leader in program/project and construction management, acclaimed for diverse contributions to local, regional, and state government projects in Texas. With a rich history of managing multi-project design and construction programs, Dikita prioritizes community engagement and positive impact, especially in culturally significant projects.
